1. Add or Edit an Opportunity stage in Salesforce Classic

Step 1: Go to the Setup tab.

Step 2: Click Customize | Opportunity | Fields under ‘Build.’

Step 3: Select the ‘Stage’ option.

Step 4: To create a new stage, select ‘New.’ Click’ Edit’ next to the stage to modify the likelihood or kind of forecast category.

Step 5: Select the sales process linked with new Opportunity stage data.

This option is only accessible if your company has numerous Sales Processes (available in Enterprise Edition and above)

2. Add or Edit an Opportunity stage in Lightning Experience

Step 1: Go to the Setup menu.

Step 2: Select Object Manager | Opportunity | Fields & Relationships from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Select the ‘Stage’ field.

Step 4: Under Opportunity Stage Picklist Values, click ‘New’ to create a new stage. Click’ Edit’ next to the stage to modify the likelihood or kind of forecast category.

Step 5: Select the sales process linked with new Opportunity stage data.

Note* This option is only accessible if the company has numerous Sales Processes (available in Enterprise Edition and above)

Step 6: Click the ‘Save’ button.

Use the ‘Replace’ button from the drop-down menu to replace (update) an existing Opportunity Stage value with the new one you’ve set. In the ‘Exact Value Changing From’ field, enter the last Stage name and choose the new value provided in the ‘Select Value Changing To’ picklist from the ‘Select Value Changing To’ picklist. All previous values on your Opportunity records will be replaced with the value from the new picklist if you use this technique.

Steps To Delete Stages To Opportunities Salesforce 

1. Delete an opportunity stage in Salesforce Classic

Step 1: Go to Setup.

Step 2: Customize | Opportunity | Fields can be found under “Build” in the upper right corner.

Step 3: Click the “Stage” field name.

Step 4: Click “Delete” next to the value in the picklist.

Step 5: If you pick the correct stage from the drop-down, all opportunities with the current stage will be replaced with options from that stage. Opportunities that aren’t in their stage will be moved to the list of stages that aren’t in the stage they were in.

2. Delete an opportunity stage in Lightning Experience

Step 1: Navigate to the Setup menu.

Step 2: Select Object Manager | Opportunity | Fields & Relationships from the drop-down menu.

Step 3: Select the ‘Stage’ field from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: To remove a value from the choose list, click the ‘Del’ button next.

Step 5: Please select a different stage from the drop-down menu so that all opportunities with the current stage will be replaced by that stage only. If an opportunity stage is deleted and not replaced with an existing value, the stage will be transferred to the list of inactive stages, which will be displayed on the right side of the screen.

The revised Stage value will not be updated on the historical Stage value; instead, it will remain unchanged as a historical value and will not be modifiable. When you add a new value to an opportunity stage, make sure to include it in the sales process so that it is visible in the sales process and on the Stage field in the opportunity stage.

Adding new value to an opportunity stage implies adding it to the sales process; if you do not, your unique value will not be available in the picklist field drop-down choices on the record page.
